School Counselor Professional Licensure in Virginia - Webinar Library

Virginia Code (§ 22.1-298.1.) requires that every person seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license with an endorsement as a school counselor to complete training in the recognition of mental health disorder and behavioral distress, in each of the following categories:

• Depression,
• Trauma,
• Violence,
• Youth suicide, and
• Substance abuse.

The following webinar series meet this requirement.

Each series includes three webinars, a knowledge check, and meets one of the five categories (depression, trauma, violence, youth suicide, or substance abuse).  Individuals are required to complete training in all five of these categories. Upon completing the knowledge check participants will receive a certificate and a results summary report.

The VDOE does not require a certain score on the knowledge check to pass; however, individual school divisions may assign their own score requirements. Candidates can retake the assessment and improve their score and increase their understanding of the content.
