I need to make sure to slow down and really express empathy for what the student is feeling in the moment. I have a great rapport with the students in my little school, but in the hustle and bustle of the school day, I sometimes get rushed and forget to be intentional in my practice. Instead of providing reasons for the student to change, I need to take the time to help them talk themselves into change based on their values. I will implement value surveys at the beginning of the year.

I feel like this is a nice refresher for helping students get to the root of their problems and find pliable solutions.

It is very valuable to me within my school practice to slow down and improve how I respond to my students. I find myself looking for a quick solution to help my students. Still, with motivational interviewing, I will allow myself to slow down and become more intentional about changing my responds to focus on my students’ values and future.

Utilizing the strategies will help me to continue building positive relationships with students , as well as, help identify their needs and establish goals to help them achieve their potential.

I often feel rushed to come to an immediate conclusion/solution to a student’s issue. This method will encourage me to take time to give contemplative thought to what my students are experiencing and give a more in depth, meaningful and sincere response.

I could improve by using more complex reflections to reflect the goals and values of the students during the sessions as opposed to using simple reflections most of the time. In addition, I could do the same practice in a focus group setting.
